Governor's Message

Dear Friends:

Welcome to the Nebraska Impact Initiative! My wife, Susanne Shore, and I want to be the first to thank you for taking time to learn more about this important program.

Throughout 2017, Nebraska is celebrating a milestone in our collective history – 150 years of statehood. It’s a time to reflect on the traditions that have made our state the best place in the world to live, work, and raise a family.

While the people of this great state have many wonderful traditions, one of the longest held and most cherished relates to service. Nebraskans are deeply committed to volunteerism. Whether it’s volunteering at the church, school, homeless shelter, food bank, or retirement facility, Nebraskans can always be counted on to come together to provide for those in need.

Our state consistently ranks in the top 10 nationally for volunteerism. In 2015, Nebraska ranked sixth with 58.23 million hours and 34 percent of our population reporting volunteer hours. That equates to $1.3 billion in value to our state. I have no doubt we can be number one in volunteerism during our sesquicentennial year with Nebraska Impact and your help.

The goal of Nebraska Impact is to connect organizations that need volunteers with those seeking opportunities. Everyone can play a role, whether it’s part of a classroom activity or corporate team building.

Thank you again for playing a role in building an even better Nebraska. We truly are blessed to live The Good Life filled with Great Opportunities.
